Voting Should Matter

For too many people their vote doesn't actually matter. Canada has escaped the usual tendency of a two-party system in our current 'First Past the Post" system of voting, but that also means that the smaller parties' candidates often don't stand a chance of winning. But that can all change this election. No, we don't have a referendum, but there is a real chance that the NDP will form a majority government or that they or the Conservatives will form a minority government. In either case we could see a real change in how our country is governed and we are way behind in that regard. I'm talking about electoral reform. I'm talking about proportional representation. Specifically a Mixed-Member Proportional System. It has already been adopted in New Zealand, Scotland, and Germany as well as other and to great effect. Even though the NDP would lose seats and power they are leading the way toward a fair representation of the people being elected into parliament. They put forward a bill that was voted down by the Conservative majority, but it set a marker for the inevitable change we will see soon. Even if you won't vote NDP, please contact your MP or MP hopeful and tell them you want fair representation; proportional representation. MMP representation. Check out these info graphs, visit the fairvote.ca website,  and scroll down to watch a short or long video or ones with animals to learn more about the future of voting in Canada!

Why does this matter? We currently see far too many false majorities and wasted votes...
